Chapter 11

The Economy, Capitalism, National Debt

Capitalism

The success of our capitalist system in America will ultimately be determined by what
kind of people we are and what we do together to bridge the unfairnesses of society.

There are two key components of capitalism:

(1) The Creation of Wealth

(2) The Sharing of Wealth

We need to be good at both of these to become stronger and more successful as a country.

The creation of wealth is what free and fair markets for goods allow us to do. It is
something that the citizens of the United States have done better than anyone else for
generations.

Freedom, stability in government, and capitalism all go together. You need all three.
America exemplifies these three major components of economic success to the world.

America––a melting pot of freedom and economic opportunity (JRE Link, 2019-0904 (Wed), COM-STR2).

Capitalism speaks these words about America—That's the best middle class I've ever had (JRE Link, 2018-0802 (Thu), COM-STR2).

A booming economy––there's big money in it. That's capitalism for you (JRE Link, 2018-0109 (Tue), COM-STR2).

Capitalism fuels the world economy (JRE Link, 2018-0528 (Mon), COM-STR2).

Capitalism makes good bread (JRE Link, 2017-1008 (Sun), COM-STR2).

Never go out of the mainstream of free markets and capitalism. If capitalism is not
working well for your country, study it more, learn, and improve. There is no Plan B in
economic theory, only Plan A––capitalism (JRE Link, 2018-0528 (Mon), COM-STR2).

Every country is behind in their study of capitalism.

We've barely scratched the surface in learning about all the good things of capitalism (JRE Link, 2018-0508 (Tue), COM-STR2).

Capitalism works. The supporting institutions of government need to be managed right
for capitalism to succeed long-term in America and every other country of the world (JRE Link, 2017-1019 (Thu), COM-STR2).

Tracking capitalism's performance––GDP should be tracked monthly at all levels of
government: federal, state, and county. The accuracy, increased frequency, and aggregation of
these measurements is paramount to gaining a greater understanding of what is going on and,
thereby, to make good government policy decisions. To optimize our capitalist economy, and to
supervise it properly on a daily basis, we need to continuously learn and relearn everything there
is to know about it and better track its performance.

GDP by industry should be implemented, not just a single measurement across all
industries. This will give us the information we need to optimize each and every industry.

Countries must adopt good long-term, capitalism-based policies and stick with them
through the normal ups and downs of economic cycles. There is no other foundation for
economic success (JRE Link, 2019-0105 (Sat), COM-STR2).

Countries need pro-growth policies, not pro-big government policies.

You must provide the fertile ground for capitalism to succeed (JRE Link, 2019-0105 (Sat), COM-STR2).

You can't win in today's dynamic world economy without adhering to the capitalist
system (JRE Link, 2018-0720 (Fri), COM-STR2).

Embrace capitalism more fully. Take the lid off of technological innovation and
economic prosperity in the nation.

Innovation—yes. High productivity—yes.

Obey free market principles. They are the principles of economic growth.

It is not the role of government to set prices for goods and services in the marketplace.
Nevertheless, use tariffs where needed, but use them responsibly and with bipartisan support (JRE Link, 2017-1006 (Fri), COM-STR2).

Coercion by government is not the basis for lasting prosperity for its citizens (JRE Link, 2017-0711 (Tue), COM-STR2).

Righteousness or goodness of heart cannot be forced upon man by society. It can only
come from within him. The Constitution and the laws of the land do not guarantee happiness for
all citizens, nor should they be used by anyone in such an attempt.

Without freedom for its citizens, government cannot be trusted (JRE Link, 2017-0623 (Fri), COM-STR2).

Taxation with representation is not much better than taxation without representation
when tax levels become a heavy burden on the people (JRE Link, 2018-0620 (Wed), COM-STR2).

The purpose of government is not to punish citizens through taxation.

The citizen says: If you don't mind, I'd like some privacy here from an intrusive
government.

Government overreach—reaching into my private life more and more (JRE Link, 2020-0130 (Thu), COM-STR2).

Government overreach—reaching into my pocket and taking more than government's fair
share of my annual income (JRE Link, 2020-0130 (Thu), COM-STR2).

Government overreach—taking away my freedoms through bigger and bigger
government programs (JRE Link, 2020-0130 (Thu), COM-STR2).

Government corruption—squandering money on questionable public works projects (JRE Link, 2020-0130 (Thu), COM-STR2).

Build bridges and build roads, but use the citizens' money sparingly in government.

The Perils of Socialism and Communism

Carefully watch over every industry of this great nation. Let's all work together to ensure
there is no dangerous escalation of government control in any sector of the economy (JRE Link, 2019-0907 (Sat), COM-STR2).

Liberals need a new philosophy on the size and scope of government. Big government is
never the solution (JRE Link, 2019-0518 (Sat), COM-STR2).

Liberals should lay aside dreams of strong, centralized control of the economy by
government. Freedom and coercion don't go together. In fact, they are complete opposites. Work
within the capitalist system and obey its laws.

Like in the olden days of the American Revolution in 1776, be a Patriot of freedom, not a
Loyalist of monarchy, socialism, and big government control.

Don't bestow more and more power upon government. Don't search out new and exciting
things for government to do in a free society. Remember, government is the exception, and
freedom is the rule.

Bottom line—stop trying to use government as a blunt instrument to achieve society's
goals (JRE Link, 2022-0131 (Mon), COM-STR2).

Socialism is bad policy and bad politics—a clear loser for everyone.

Socialism will never be bipartisan in America. It can never succeed under any
circumstances.

America is freedom. America is capitalism.

Freedom lives and breathes in every American's heart (JRE Link, 2018-1212 (Wed), COM-STR2).

We believe in the sanctity of freedom. It is who we are as Americans first and foremost (JRE Link, 2018-1212 (Wed), COM-STR2).

Trust in the principle of freedom.

Don't be afraid of freedom as the foundation for America's economic success. Wealth
follows freedom (JRE Link, 2018-0720 (Fri), COM-STR2).

Let's place our lives in freedom's path. That's the best place for them (JRE Link, 2019-0513 (Mon), COM-STR2).

The role of government is to support the sharing of wealth among free people, not to
mandate it through law. A strong social safety net is part of that government support (JRE Link, 2017-1004 (Wed), COM-STR2).

The government sector can provide support in the war against poverty, but it is not the tip
of the spear. In a free society, individual citizens, the private sector, and the non-profit sector
need to take the lead and do the heavy lifting of wealth sharing (JRE Link, 2017-0622 (Thu), COM-STR2).

Don’t confuse a strong social safety net with socialism. One is sustainable, and the other
is not (JRE Link, 2018-0528 (Mon), COM-STR2).

Socialism––get off that horse. It will go lame sooner or later (JRE Link, 2018-0619 (Tue), WSE-MAIN).

Capitalism is the sturdy and dependable horse. Capitalism is also the fast horse (JRE Link, 2018-0619 (Tue), WSE-MAIN).

Capitalism spurs us along (JRE Link, 2018-0612 (Tue), WSE-MAIN).

A risky proposition––the bend-but-not-break capitalism rule of a socialist-capitalist
hybrid economy.

Reinventing socialism is not a good idea.

Poor countries have a very tight window to achieve economic success. Thus,
experimenting with the perils of socialism is never a wise strategy (JRE Link, 2019-0828 (Wed), COM-STR2).

Socialism is on the scrap heap of history. Let's not disturb it. It belongs there (JRE Link, 2018-0720 (Fri), COM-STR2).

Socialism seeks to control market forces with its own set of made-up rules.

Socialism is a mirage in the desert of economic downturn.

Socialism is the gateway to economic disaster in good times or bad.

Socialism––it ruins society (JRE Link, 2016-1031 (Mon), WSE-MAIN).

Socialism––the sound of economic calamity in the streets (JRE Link, 2019-0511 (Sat), COM-STR2).

A citizen says––The shelves are empty. Basic goods are no longer available. What was
the rationale again for socialism in our country? (JRE Link, 2019-0505 (Sun), COM-STR2)

The socialist leader responds––Don't worry. Food is on the way. Emergency relief trucks
from capitalist nations are just crossing the border now with plenty for everyone (JRE Link, 2019-0505 (Sun), COM-STR2).

There is no social safety net in a socialist country once the economic system collapses,
which is bound to happen sooner or later. So, socialism hurts the poor most of all (JRE Link, 2019-0505 (Sun), COM-STR2).

Socialism destroys wealth in society, and the middle class along with it (JRE Link, 2019-0505 (Sun), COM-STR2).

Socialism creates a big loss for society. It's not a profitable venture (JRE Link, 2019-0326 (Tue), COM-STR2).

Socialism leads to stagnation in the economy. Socialism leads to hyperinflation. The
dreams of socialists turn into nightmares for the people (JRE Link, 2019-0505 (Sun), COM-STR2).

Socialism eliminates competition in the marketplace (JRE Link, 2019-0326 (Tue), COM-STR2).

Socialism is grossly inefficient. When government is directly managing or co-managing
the nation's goods and services, bad things happen.

Socialism doesn't build an ever-growing fountain of wealth. It squanders the financial
success and innovations of its citizens (JRE Link, 2019-0828 (Wed), COM-STR2).

An alarmed socialist asks his fellow socialist the following questions:

Were you aware that it is actually businesses in the private sector, and not government,
that
create profit?

Did you know that profit generated by businesses is what actually enriches society?

Socialism leads to destruction in poor countries almost immediately in the short run, and
in richer countries over time as corruption and inefficiency come together in a terrible marriage
of financial ruin (JRE Link, 2017-0711 (Tue), COM-STR2).

If America ever turns to socialism, short her in the stock market (JRE Link, 2018-0915 (Sat), COM-STR2).

Socialism would be the death of America and her long-term economic success (JRE Link, 2019-0201 (Fri), COM-STR2).

Whatever the problem is in society, embracing the horrors of socialism is not the answer.

The corrupt nature and dangers of socialism have been made manifest countless times.
Will the people of the earth finally learn the lesson of history and stop digging up fool's gold? (JRE Link, 2019-0223 (Sat), COM-STR2)

Socialism is not self-rule. The power of the people to govern themselves is curtailed (JRE Link, 2019-1228 (Sat), COM-STR2).

Freedom is required for self-government. Strong central control of the economy by
socialist leaders is not self-government.

Socialism does not create economic equality among its citizens. It does great harm to all
economic activity in society, taking the country in a downward spiral.

Equality is whatever the socialist leaders of your country say it is (JRE Link, 2019-0505 (Sun), COM-STR2).

Socialism is more about the seizing of power and the seizing of wealth, not the sharing of
power and the sharing of wealth (JRE Link, 2019-0925 (Wed), COM-STR2).

Compulsion—the strong, iron hand of government—is the power and glory of the
socialist, not freedom, prosperity, and true economic principles.

Socialist leaders live high on the hog.

The corrupt leader of a socialist nation says these words––I'm rich! I'm rich! Socialism
has made me rich (JRE Link, 2019-0505 (Sun), COM-STR2).

Socialism is the pathway to unlimited government power and unlimited corruption (JRE Link, 2019-0505 (Sun), COM-STR2).

Beware young people! Run away from socialism. Once absolute power takes hold, there
is no way to stop it. Imelda Marcos will come to a shoe store near you (JRE Link, 2019-0505 (Sun), COM-STR2).

A lust for political power––to seek control over other people's lives and property––is pure
selfishness on one's part, not benevolence. Young people of the nation need to understand this,
and many adults as well (JRE Link, 2019-0925 (Wed), COM-STR2).

What is socialism? Every college student needs to come to grips with the true answer to
this important question and lay aside the teachings of some of their misguided professors (JRE Link, 2019-0223 (Sat), COM-STR2).

Travel this beautiful land, throughout as many of the fifty states as you are able, and you
will see what freedom in America is all about. America's greatness comes from free enterprise––
the tens of millions of small businesses, and the hundreds of millions of consumers who drive
our powerful economy (JRE Link, 2018-0113 (Sat), COM-STR2).

Socialism will not lead to a more ideal America (JRE Link, 2017-1004 (Wed), COM-STR2).

Government provides the foundation for citizens to go about the work of building the
ideal in society, but government itself cannot create the ideal society. It is we the people and
what we do every day in our personal lives that creates a successful society. Socialists lack
understanding of this great and overriding principle (JRE Link, 2019-0806 (Tue), COM-STR2).

Rid yourself of any thoughts of socialism early on, while still in your youth.

Marry economic success. Marry freedom. Marry capitalism (JRE Link, 2018-0627 (Wed), COM-STR2).

The political process is not a substitute for people helping people directly. That is what
true love and compassion for one another is all about. That is what makes communities strong
and successful day in and day out (JRE Link, 2019-0806 (Tue), COM-STR2).

Socialism doesn't have the power to motivate people to do good of their own volition.
Compulsion is required to lead the people rather than freedom. The state has all power and the
individual citizen has none (JRE Link, 2019-0223 (Sat), COM-STR2).

Freedom and righteousness among the people are of secondary importance to the
socialist, but they are of primary importance to God, and let's hope they are of primary
importance to each of us. Our nation depends on these two great pillars of society.

Socialism is an enemy to freedom. If socialism is being seriously considered by the
American people, then our political system, our education system, and our national press have all
become corrupted.

Socialism is akin to establishing a king with absolute power over the economy and our
lives (JRE Link, 2019-0406 (Sat), COM-STR2).

Capitalism easily takes the first-place prize.

Socialism cheats every step of the way, but still comes in a distant second (JRE Link, 2019-0406 (Sat), COM-STR2).

Communism runs out of breath along the way and is unable to even finish the race (JRE Link, 2019-0406 (Sat), COM-STR2).

Socialists need to abandon their corrupt ideology; communists, even more so.

Professors sympathetic to, or advocates of Karl Marx's teachings can make big money at
America's universities. Where does the money to pay them come from? Capitalism (JRE Link, 2019-0505 (Sun), COM-STR2).

The legacy of Karl Marx and his teachings is not a good one (JRE Link, 2019-0925 (Wed), COM-STR2).

A communist country trading only with other communist countries will never survive. It
desperately needs trade with capitalist countries. And so, what does that tell you? (JRE Link, 2018-0528 (Mon), COM-STR2)

Communism steals from capitalism in order to survive (JRE Link, 2018-0528 (Mon), COM-STR2).

Communism governments steal from their own people in order to survive.

Capitalism supports freedom, communism does not.

Capitalism plus freedom, not capitalism plus communism (JRE Link, 2019-0105 (Sat), COM-STR2).

Communism––abusing the civil rights of workers is big business (JRE Link, 2019-0530 (Thu), COM-STR2).

The communist leader says the people: Freedom doesn't matter. Just do what you're told
and shut up.

The laws of the land in communist regimes are created out of whole cloth by the whims
of communist leaders. The leaders are not accountable to the people, and the leaders are not
accountable to the truth (JRE Link, 2022-1210 (Sat), COM-STR2).

Communism brings about the worst of humanity's ills (JRE Link, 2019-0709 (Tue), COM-STR2).

Communism is bad for the world and always has been.

Communist regimes and their citizens need to realize that their governments are
problematic. They are living on borrowed time, and time is running out (JRE Link, 2019-0105 (Sat), COM-STR2).

The people living in a communist country say these words––We're in the muddle of bad
government. We need change... everlasting change (JRE Link, 2018-0406 (Fri), COM-STR2).

Let loose of the Soviet Union mindset. Don't follow the old Soviet way of doing things (JRE Link, 2018-0414 (Sat), COM-STR2).

Hello Communism, this is Freedom. Step aside, please (JRE Link, 2018-0901 (Sat), COM-STR2).

Communism, even more than socialism, fuels economic stagnation and government
corruption.

Freedom is the standard of excellence in government throughout the world. Thus,
autocratic countries will never achieve excellence on their current path (JRE Link, 2018-0901 (Sat), COM-STR2).

America's economic success terrifies autocratic leaders. It bears powerful testimony to
the masses that freedom and capitalism are the proper tools to lead civilization forward.

The only thing autocratic regimes provide in poor countries is a nice military parade once
in a while on holidays. The rest of the year misery rules (JRE Link, 2018-0416 (Mon), COM-STR2).

The treasure of autocratic regime leaders is their political power and luxurious lifestyles,
not the welfare of the people. Freedom is a terror to them. Transparency in government is a terror
to them (JRE Link, 2018-0307 (Wed), COM-STR2).

A dictator smiles upon evil. His character is that of a wicked man (JRE Link, 2022-0512 (Thu), COM-STR2).

Dictators are tornadoes of evil (JRE Link, 2017-0921 (Thu), WSE-MAIN).

Dictators run a dual campaign of terror and deceit in their countries, standing upon the
graves of the innocent (JRE Link, 2019-0329 (Fri), COM-STR2).

Real democracies only please, not phony ones. Elections in autocratic countries are just
ready-made for the cameras and manifestly corrupt (JRE Link, 2018-0531 (Thu), COM-STR2).

Corruption in Government

There are two types of corruption in government:

(1) Explicit Corruption.

(2) Implicit Corruption.

Explicit corruption––the occasional government official breaking or skirting corruption
laws. This, while egregious, is only a small part of the overall corruption problem that exists in
our government and can be handled by ethics committees and law enforcement agencies. Outside
of the United States, however, in countries where there is not a legacy of freedom and
representative government, explicit corruption is the rule rather than the exception. It creates dire
circumstances for the people of those nations and, as we have seen repeated over and over
throughout history, leads to failed states.

Implicit corruption is the manner in which the inefficiency of government is made
horribly worse by the political industry––the lobbyists, the political appointees, the activists, the
unions, the corporate and foreign country special interests, the political parties, etc. It leads to the
passage of bad, unfair, or unnecessary laws or the implementation of bad, unfair, or unnecessary
regulations which gradually weaken the nation. This second, implicit type of corruption is the
real danger for America––a slow, gradual weakening of our country that goes unnoticed election
cycle after election cycle. It is the road we are currently on and may lead us to dire circumstances
and/or a failed state of our own one day.

We are not alone in this problem. The political industries of all First World countries tend
to move their respective peoples sideways or backwards. These non-value-added political
industries feed on corruption, scandals, the misfortune or mistakes of political opponents, and
any good news or bad news of the day that they can use to their advantage. Political industries
inspire poor leadership and bad leaders within the parties. Even worse, they protect the bad ones
already in power.

And in the case of those countries that are just learning representative government
principles for the first time (like those of the Middle East, Africa, Asia, South and Central
America, and Eastern Europe), they don't have the tradition, the culture, or the strength of
supporting institutions in government that we have as Americans, and therefore, the damage
done by political industries can often be fatal, causing them to consider resurrecting failed
government models of the past, which is a new train wreck waiting to happen.

Capitalism is certainly not immune to corruption in its ranks. While it will succeed where
all other economic systems of mankind fail, it does have a breaking point. Therefore, we must
use our freedom wisely to keep it strong for the long term and to set a good example for other
countries to follow. The real estate and financial market collapses of 2008, and the vast
economic damage caused by the coronavirus lockdowns in 2020 and 2021, have helped to
remind us once again that there are more important things in life than the material possessions
aspect of the American dream.

Budgeting and the National Debt

The national debt––it happened on the American people's watch.

The selfishness and foolishness in passing irresponsible budgets year after year was
driven by voters at the voting booth.

We, the American people, are always demanding the impossible from government
regardless of the financial consequences and, thereby, sending mixed messages to our elected
leaders (JRE Link, 2018-0220 (Tue), COM-STR2).

Fiscal irresponsibility doesn't help any of our nation's priorities. The budget
irresponsibility on the part of social justice warriors, elderly lobbying groups, and defense hawks
of past decades are stealing hundreds of billions of dollars each year via interest payments from
today's poor, today's elderly, and today's soldiers fighting on the frontlines. And it's just getting
worse.

The American people—what they want vs. what they need and can afford (JRE Link, 2020-0130 (Thu), COM-STR2).

Simply put—the growing national debt is a disaster for our country. A bankrupt
government helps no one (JRE Link, 2019-0918 (Wed), COM-STR2).

The great ship America is taking on more and more water (JRE Link, 2018-0220 (Tue), COM-STR2).

The sequester is not the problem, it's the solution. The United States is spent... spent by
an endless parade of politicians from both parties, decade after decade, who have used the
national debt to fund their political careers

Austerity... in other words, math.

Obey the principles of math.

The principles of math and the principles of fiscal responsibility go together.

Remember, math works. Tragically, it's the political process most often that undermines
the financial stability and economic success of the country.

The math to get to a balanced budget is easy, but economists of both political parties need
to stand down. Simple math principles taught in elementary school are the most important tools
for entitlement reform. Let elementary school students throughout the country show the way to a
balanced budget.

To arrive at a balanced budget or a budget surplus in real terms, the political industry
must be removed from the equation, because it uses political calculations in the budget process
and not simple math calculations. Political calculations will rarely lead to a balanced federal

budget, and certainly won’t keep it balanced for long even when it occasionally does happen.
Political calculations in budgeting will only push us further and further down the road towards
insolvency in the end. The legacy of Greece and Venezuela awaits us.

Why bother teaching our children the principles of math in school if we are not going to
obey those rules ourselves in the nation we leave for them. You can only have a few decades of
me-first deficit spending, insane national debt, and unsustainable entitlements; after that, the
math takes over. And really, that point has already been reached in America (JRE Link, 2018-0620 (Wed), COM-STR2).

The Speaker of the House says these words––Welcome everyone. Today is the first day
of our new session of congress. We'll deal with this important issue of a crippling national debt
two years from now in the next session of Congress after the next election. And why not? The
voters of America will simply reward us for putting it off again.

The bipartisan message to all voters is exactly opposite of what it should be. It is no
longer: "What can you do for your country?" It has become: "What can your country do for you
through massive deficit spending?"

The financial well-being of the nation has no allies in Congress (JRE Link, 2021-1219 (Sun), COM-STR2).

Liberals are fiscally irresponsible (JRE Link, 2021-1219 (Sun), COM-STR2).

Moderates are ambivalent with respect to deficit spending. They're willing to listen, but
they always have their own seats in mind as they ponder what action to take (JRE Link, 2021-1219 (Sun), COM-STR2).

Conservatives complain about deficit spending, but provide no leadership or workable
approach to a bipartisan solution that is sustainable over time. And they sometimes fight against
the sequester with a fervor equal to that of liberals (JRE Link, 2021-1219 (Sun), COM-STR2).

Politicians trick you into believing that government has unlimited money that can be
spent on every possible need. The national debt—already a disaster in the making—should never
be used again to cover up this lie (JRE Link, 2021-0920 (Mon), COM-STR2).

Politicians are like the criminal flash mobs attacking department stores in woke cities.
They put on masks to hide their faces, organize on social media, and then break into the treasury
with legislative clubs, crashing through the glass cases of national wealth. They cart out the
precious jewels and other valuable treasures of America in bags to their cars out on the street,
planning to show them to voters in the next election (JRE Link, 2021-1219 (Sun), COM-STR2).

Big government ambitions put enormous pressure on the tax base of the American
people. Budget deficits explode very easily, and there is very little room for the nation to
maneuver as unforeseen, and even foreseen events occur. Any decline in economic growth can
immediately put the core government services at risk. For this reason, big government must be
seen as a great evil to society (JRE Link, 2022-0226 (Sat), COM-STR2).

Deficit spending should be an occasional thing, not a regular thing.

Let's not enter the jittery world of bigger and bigger deficits. The American people need
certainty, not chaos in their financial future (JRE Link, 2021-0527 (Thu), COM-STR2).

Deficit spending puts the future in doubt. Not even the greatest economist can predict the
unforeseen dangers that institutionalized deficit spending pose to the economy (JRE Link, 2021-0527 (Thu), COM-STR2).

Our national debt problem needs urgent attention––a high interest rate among
government leaders and citizens both... and their political parties.

Voices of reason, voices of fiscal sanity are shouted down or simply ignored in public
debate. Unfunded entitlement programs created by politicians of the past are treated as though
they are more sacred than the Constitution. Constituencies of the present have all control in the
budget process. Constituencies of the not-to-distant future—where most of the problems lie—are
given no voice in the matter (JRE Link, 2021-1219 (Sun), COM-STR2).

A cry is heard among politicians and activists throughout the land: (JRE Link, 2021-1219 (Sun), COM-STR2)

"We have smart economists who can disobey the principles of math. They will protect us
from the dangers of entitlement growth and out-of-control debt.

"And we recommend that all Third World nations mimic our behavior, passing legislation
in their countries that creates budget funds out of nothing for any purpose under the sun.
Hyperinflation, increased default risk on national debt payments, unstable markets, an unstable
currency, rapid growth in unemployment, and other dangerous economic effects are nothing to
worry about."

Be honest with yourself, America. Be truthful. No more slight of hand in public policy (JRE Link, 2022-1121 (Mon), COM-STR2).

America, you need to admit that you have a drinking problem. The casual drinking of
deficit spending has become out of control and you are no longer in control of your faculties.
Politicians are drunk, and the citizens are continuously drunk with unrealistic expectations of
government money (JRE Link, 2022-0706 (Wed), COM-STR2).

Wanting it fixed vs. doing something about it––the failure of America's citizenry to care
about deficits and the national debt.

Mountains of debt are piling up and there is no one there to lead us out of the fiscal mess.
So, let's ask these important questions once again. Are there any true leaders among us? Are the
citizens of America ready to stand up and do their part? (JRE Link, 2018-0220 (Tue), COM-STR2)

I will protect your entitlements. I will reform entitlement spending, but only on the
margins. Neither of these two approaches is honorable. Both are leading us to financial collapse (JRE Link, 2017-0317 (Fri), COM-STR2).

Entitlement reform is a routine act of Congress when there are no politicians around. The
same is true of all the nation's problems, large or small.

Solving this serious problem of runaway entitlements once and for all will allow America
to succeed in today's generation, and super-succeed in future generations (JRE Link, 2019-0319 (Tue), COM-STR2).

Fiscal responsibility will be a great treasure for our children and grandchildren, like a
series of golden Easter eggs sitting in the grass for them to discover and enjoy.

There needs to be checks and balances in government––checks for government
expenditures going out that don't exceed the account balances of government revenues coming
in.

It's time to make do with less government (JRE Link, 2019-0918 (Wed), WSE-MAIN).

Take government by the hand and help her reduce expenditures, just like one does in
business every day (JRE Link, 2022-1121 (Mon), COM-STR2).

Gain a testimony of a balanced budget (JRE Link, 2019-0918 (Wed), WSE-MAIN).

Federal and state budgets should be set for one, two or three months at a time to keep
them closely in balance with the monthly revenue that is collected for the same periods, and with
the monthly GDP that is tracked. Twelve months is a just an arbitrary reporting period that we
have used for generations in both government and private industry budget planning. We need to
react to budget shortfalls more quickly and make decisions right away about expenditures and
taxes. Learning how to reduce the deficit for a single month can set the foundation for balancing
the budget or realizing surpluses on a permanent basis.

The momentum gained by America actually reducing its national debt every month
through surpluses, rather than regularly adding to it through deficits, would be breathtaking for
the world. All nations, including other First World nations, are looking for solutions to their
fiscal problems. Because of the selfishness––of politicians, of political parties, of businesses, and
of us, the American people––that has been present in our political process for so long, we have
become accustomed to structural deficits as if they were somehow a legitimate governing
practice. Setting a good example to the world in the management of our financial affairs would
be one of the most powerful foreign policy and defense policy initiatives we have ever
undertaken. A balanced budget can lead to greater stability in the world's financial markets, and
greater peace at home and abroad. The same is true for the finances in each of our fifty states.
