Chapter 12

Foreign Policy

Principles for a Better World, Our Wonderful Friends and Allies

Significant progress towards solving world problems has been held back because of petty
squabbles between nations, the stockpiling and bad stewardship of wealth, and the personal
ambition and need for self-aggrandizement that drive so many in the leadership of countries (JRE Link, 2018-0604 (Mon), COM-STR2).

The people of the world can have their lives greatly improved by true principles. We have
the power within us to bring this about through education, good leadership, compassion for
others, setting a good example as a nation, and faith in God (JRE Link, 2019-0108 (Tue), COM-STR2).

The world has so much to offer us as human beings. Good is everywhere, not just evil (JRE Link, 2019-0108 (Tue), COM-STR2).

Peace on earth... all in good time. God will help us make it happen.

Men have always fought in this world (JRE Link, 2022-0724 (Sun), WSE-MAIN).

Men answer the call to fight, but not to establish peace (JRE Link, 2022-0724 (Sun), WSE-MAIN).

Imagine that we have all come to the end of a battle and are now sitting down together in
the aftermath. Swords have been put up on the mantel, like they are no longer going to be used.
This is where mankind needs to be headed.

The march of civilization. It will end well if we'll all repent and apply our hearts to
learning the lessons of history (JRE Link, 2021-0503 (Mon), COM-STR2).

Mankind is not here on earth to fail (JRE Link, 2021-0503 (Mon), COM-STR2).

Our goal as Americans, as Europeans, as friends and allies throughout the world is this—
that good triumphs over evil.

Shared beliefs across religions worldwide can bring out the good in all of us. God can
perfect and fine tune these common beliefs as we become more unified and friendly to one
another as nations (JRE Link, 2021-0820 (Fri), COM-STR2).

Freedom is not universal. There is much work to do in the world. The spirit of America is
not just a North America thing (JRE Link, 2018-0818 (Sat), COM-STR2).

Autocratic governments––they all have troublesome leaders that the world has to deal
with every day.

Autocratic governments create a whole system of evil. Many men in leadership of these
countries do unholy deeds, not just the one in charge. Crimes against humanity pile up very
quickly. Men who might have been honorable in life, are turned against God, have their hearts
turned cold, and become indifferent to the suffering of others. In short, they lose their souls and
destroy their countries (JRE Link, 2018-1217 (Mon), COM-STR2).

To all autocratic leaders—If you were not evil, would you be happier? The answer is yes (JRE Link, 2022-0724 (Sun), COM-STR2).

The cry of the wild and ferocious man of the world, showing no mercy, and finding no
peace in his soul (JRE Link, 2022-0724 (Sun), COM-STR2).

An evil autocratic leader is often not content just to create misery among his own people.
He may see opportunities to create chaos and extend his system of misery around the world. So,
beware of isolationism and neutrality (JRE Link, 2019-0108 (Tue), COM-STR2).

Autocratic leaders around the world must be brought to their knees and submit to the will
of their peoples (JRE Link, 2018-0818 (Sat), COM-STR2).

Autocratic leaders—turn their lies around and bring them to account (JRE Link, 2022-0308 (Tue), COM-STR2).

Autocratic leaders should be humble because their systems of government do not solve
their country's problems. They have nothing but tyranny and rampant corruption to offer their
citizens.

Displaced peoples in war-torn areas––Provide them temporary government and rebuild
their houses. If you withhold your substance from them, the same misery will soon come to a
theatre near you.

A sweet people in need––the refugees of the Middle East and other poor nations who
pray daily to God for someone... anyone... to help.

"I'm starved," says the refugee. "Do you have anything to eat?"

"I earned my supper," says the poor man of a poor country.

Among those who borrow, life is hard. The debt challenges of Third Word nations are
difficult to overcome.

Nature brings sadness to Puerto Rico. Two lives––a life of hurricanes, and a life of
poverty (JRE Link, 2017-1008 (Sun), COM-STR2).

France is the center of art and culture––the pride of the world.

Germany's powerful economy reaches greater and greater heights every year. She leads
Europe forward towards a prosperous future.

Thank you, Germany, and the other great countries of Western and Eastern Europe, for
your leadership in the world on so many key issues (JRE Link, 2022-0724 (Sun), COM-STR2).

Look to Canada and discover all that she stands for... the great goodness that is there (JRE Link, 2021-0606 (Sun), COM-STR2).

Canada is a beacon to the world just like the United States. Similar goals, similar
prosperity (JRE Link, 2021-0606 (Sun), COM-STR2).

The United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand—our great allies and friends.
And so much that we have in common in language, in culture, and in dreams for the future.

Japan and South Korea—similarly great allies and friends. Powerful economies, beautiful
cultures, beautiful lands, and beautiful people.

China

The future of China is to no longer fight a cold war against the free world. She should
become like the United States; become like the European Union; become like Taiwan, Japan, and
South Korea; become like the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and the new, emerging
democracies of the world—a beloved friend and ally to all.

The legacy of China should not be Mao and the current CCP. Start fresh with freedom.
Let there be a 1776 moment that the Chinese people can rally around (JRE Link, 2020-1009 (Fri), COM-STR2).

The world loves the Chinese people beyond measure.

The world wants to do business with the Chinese people, but not the CCP. The CCP just
gets in the way and is not value-added (JRE Link, 2022-0307 (Mon), COM-STR2).

Don't confuse the lower labor costs of China with acceptance of the CCP. The inflow of
capital to China over the last few decades was driven by market forces, not by a hunger for the
CCP system of government and its way of life (JRE Link, 2022-0307 (Mon), COM-STR2).

Deep down the members of the CCP know that their form of government is not correct.
The CCP serves the interests of the CCP, not of the interests of China herself (JRE Link, 2020-1009 (Fri), COM-STR2).

The well-being of society can be a consideration to members of the CCP in public policy
initiatives, and in government actions undertaken, but only if there is something that directly
benefits them (JRE Link, 2021-0726 (Mon), COM-STR2).

"Thank you, very much," says the CCP party member. "These insider deals are very
lucrative for us.

"It's good for us to cheat, take bribes, and conduct business transactions through state
enterprises in a corrupt manner. It makes our lives very comfortable."

The CCP shouts to the people: "Boo democracy! Boo freedom!"

There is no honor in the CCP. There is no honor in single-party or communist rule (JRE Link, 2021-0726 (Mon), COM-STR2).

Free enterprise—Yes. Communist party control of business enterprises—No (JRE Link, 2021-0726 (Mon), COM-STR2).

China's problem is per capita. She doesn't need the power and prestige of a big military.
She needs to put the needs of her people first and the needs of her government second.

China's problem is freedom––she needs to bestow more and more freedom upon her
people. A bill of rights like that of the United States is perfect for her.

So many people in China—a significant part of the world's population—are living under
tyranny. The free world turns a blind eye to the inherent evils of communism, day in and day out (JRE Link, 2021-0726 (Mon), COM-STR2).

Poor China. Terrible leadership and terrible governance.

There is much about her activities that the CCP is not sharing with her own people and
the people of the world. Freedom and transparency in government established in China will help
prevent future Covid-like pandemics and other worldwide disasters (JRE Link, 2021-0726 (Mon), COM-STR2).

The CCP is incompetent with respect to freedom and the rights of her country's citizens (JRE Link, 2021-0708 (Thu), COM-STR2).

The CCP has been so absorbed in the curtailing of freedom among her people that she has
lost sight of the untapped power of the soul—to do great things in society and to change the
world—when one has full freedom of expression. This power to excel in all things doesn't come
from the state. It comes from God (JRE Link, 2021-0820 (Fri), COM-STR2).

The CCP can't export her principles of government because she is devoid of the correct
morality needed to lead her own people, let alone the rest of the world (JRE Link, 2021-0820 (Fri), COM-STR2).

The voices of Lenin, Stalin, and Mao—and their successors holding power today—are
not the ones to listen to (JRE Link, 2021-0820 (Fri), COM-STR2).

The CCP says—The killing off of millions or tens of millions of citizens through large-
scale central planning projects of the economy is not a big deal to us. We've done it before and
we'll probably have to do it again someday (JRE Link, 2021-0708 (Thu), COM-STR2).

Political power gives the CCP access to brutality. They treat the Chinese people badly
and make them suffer.

There are good people even among the leadership of dark regimes. They need to step
forward and bring the crimes of their regimes to the knowledge of the people and to members of
the press in freedom-loving countries (JRE Link, 2021-0726 (Mon), COM-STR2).

And they also need to pull out... defecting, or otherwise departing from the regimes (JRE Link, 2021-0726 (Mon), COM-STR2).

The CCP can't survive transparency in government. It needs to protect its secrets of evil
or the citizens would immediately revolt (JRE Link, 2022-0307 (Mon), COM-STR2).

Truth is suspended. Lies must prevail for communism to survive.

The Chinese people say to their government: "We've had enough of communism's
dictatorial, heavy-handed police state. Freedom like Taiwan is what we want."

Chinese citizens should invoke the freedom clause of their government's pact with the
people. If the principles of freedom are not being adhered to, those in power must step aside and
let those committed to freedom come forward to serve in their place (JRE Link, 2021-0726 (Mon), COM-STR2).

A peaceful transition to freedom is what's needed. Achieve self-rule by peaceful means.
The governance by the CCP can end with a public ceremony—the lowering of the old flag, and
the raising of a new flag representing the free provinces of China (JRE Link, 2021-0802 (Mon), COM-STR2).

A demonstration of anger towards the CCP is not warranted. Just let them know that the
time for freedom has finally arrived (JRE Link, 2021-0802 (Mon), COM-STR2).

Anger begets anger. Revenge begets revenge. You don't like the coercive and vindictive
nature of the CCP government currently in power, so don't replicate their mistakes in the new
government that replaces them. Welcome the old CCP members into the new, free society as
friends and neighbors.

In the transition to a free government, members of the CCP can be given bronze
parachutes, but please no silver or golden parachutes. Negotiate these packages for the outgoing
party members with sensitivity to the new direction of the country (JRE Link, 2021-0726 (Mon), COM-STR2).

Choosing and Implementing the Right Policy / Afghanistan

Mayday! Mayday! We have a catastrophe unfolding in Afghanistan! Fellow Americans,
citizens of Allied countries, and vulnerable Afghan friends of ours are being abandoned and
condemned to Taliban rule. An easily-foreseen government collapse, a monumental refugee and
humanitarian crisis, ISIS-K terrorist attacks, ad-hoc military checkpoints throughout Kabul,
stolen passports, house-to-house searches, kidnappings, and summary executions—all of this is
happening before the eyes of the American people. A new president of the United States is
urgently needed.

America—constantly in political conflict and never at peace on the home front. The
twenty-year Afghanistan policy was a mirror-image of that continuous conflict (JRE Link, 2021-0820 (Fri), COM-STR2).

America—a divided country that can't get her own house in order to set a good example
of a unified country (JRE Link, 2021-0820 (Fri), COM-STR2).

America—continuously unable to manage the complexity of world events and to achieve
her foreign policy goals.

Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Iraq—the same mistakes were present in all three wars (JRE Link, 2021-0820 (Fri), COM-STR2).

Super-brilliant policy in Afghanistan was not needed. The correct policy was to maintain
the unity of 9-11 throughout the country; make good, common-sense decisions day by day as
circumstances dictated; provide complete transparency to the American people on all aspects of
the military deployment; and then supervise the armed forces and intelligence services extremely
well over time. Mistakes will occur along the way, so everyone—including the American
people—need to be ready to react to those mistakes and to help get them fixed quickly once
identified. A unified country can adapt to a policy change as more information becomes
available weeks, months or years down the line. A divided country, however, cannot. A divided
country will react badly—going in circles, fighting at every turn, and experiencing chaos on the
issue at home and abroad.

So, the solution is simple for America—be unified on all foreign policy initiatives, and be
unified on all domestic policy initiatives. That's basically it. Following this model, political
leaders of both parties can help our nation achieve higher and higher levels of excellence in all
that she does. And thereby, America can teach developing countries like Afghanstan by example
how democracy is supposed to work.

If we become better people working together at home, everything in the world will
change, everything in the world will improve (JRE Link, 2021-0820 (Fri), COM-STR2).

Export the goodness of character found in the hearts of the American people—their
genuine love and concern for the people of other countries—not the carefully-crafted words and
actions of politicians who are always in perpetual conflict with one other (JRE Link, 2021-0820 (Fri), COM-STR2).

Export the principle of unity in government. Unity leads to success.

The party in power, whether in the presidency or in Congress, is not necessarily the one
with the correct policy solutions. You can see the obvious problem that creates for the nation in
the years that follow. Policy initiatives are put forward by the ruling party that may go counter to
the best interests of the nation; and sheer political power is exercised to support that bad policy (JRE Link, 2021-0820 (Fri), COM-STR2).

The complexity of what's right and wrong on a large mixture of different policy needs the
nation has is not reflected well in our support for one political candidate over another in
elections. Unity as a nation needs to be our goal, not incomplete policy prescriptions being put
forward by one party or another. The winning party and winning candidates should not see the

election as a mandate for specific policy proposals; rather, it is for them to take the lead in
showcasing a unified government in action to the American people and to the world.

9-11 unity—that's what we want forever in America. That's the winning strategy.

9-11 unity was a humble unity. We felt the sacredness of America—the brave
firefighters, policemen, emergency workers, and the many innocent victims—in our hearts.

On the other hand, countries of the world have their own responsibility to stand up and
embrace freedom. There are limits to what one country—even the greatest of all, like America—
can do for others and still take care of her own poor.

"I tried," says a tired America, after twenty years of difficult fighting in the hills and
valleys of an extremely poor nation. "Afghanistan herself needs to find the will and power to
overcome these cultural impediments that are holding her back."

Theocracy at gunpoint before America came in 2001, and theocracy at gunpoint after
America left in 2021. That's not a solution to Afghanistan's problems.

Good must win out over evil for Afghanistan to survive. Winning that battle against evil
is even more important for the Afghan people than winning the war on poverty. The failure of
the world community to help establish a corruption-free democracy should not be the reason for
Afghanistan to fail in that effort herself. She can and she must overcome the obstacles that all
poor countries and emerging democracies face. Help from the world community, direct and
indirect, will still be there once the smoke clears and the flag of freedom is once again—and
permanently—raised in Kabul.

Emerging Democracies

Vietnam—a rising star in Asia. We want to do everything we can to support her rise to
greatness.

Feel good about India—a great nation that is friendly to the world, growing stronger in
economic power, year by year. The Gandhi legacy will endure forever.

The cold war defeat of the USSR is not reversible. Nations resist truth to their detriment.
Russia has incredible potential, but she must follow the example of post-WWII Europe and post-
WWII Japan and South Korea.

1917, and then most recently in the 1990s—a misreading of history by the Russian
people and their leaders. Communism should have been ended early on. The Eastern European
model was the one to follow (JRE Link, 2022-1105 (Sat), COM-STR2).

A Russia friendly to the world is what is needed, an ally of European countries, not an
enemy (JRE Link, 2022-1105 (Sat), WSE-MAIN).

Russia becomes part of NATO. The Cold War finally ends (JRE Link, 2022-1105 (Sat), COM-STR2).

NATO and the freedom-loving countries of the West are not a threat to Russia's territory
or sovereignty. The ideology of communism is the only threat (JRE Link, 2022-1105 (Sat), COM-STR2).

There was never glory in the Soviet Union, only tragedy (JRE Link, 2022-1105 (Sat), COM-STR2).

Eastern European countries—they have taught the world since 1990 what freedom and
democracy is all about. They are compelling new witnesses of the greatness of America and
Europe, and all that they stand for together.

Israel—a great nation, an industrious and prosperous people, a great democracy, and a
great ally. She lifts an ensign of peace to all countries. She is ready, willing, and able to be a
partner in trade and a partner in all things heaven and earth. She has so much to offer the world!

The countries of the Middle East—a separation of church and state is what they need
most for their peoples to prosper. Peace will then come. Calmness will ensue. Tourism will
grow. Economies will skyrocket.

The fountain of youth in Iran—they need a new and exciting future to look forward to.
The old theocratic nonsense must end.

Theocracies delight in evil—extreme rules, extreme punishments, extreme everything (JRE Link, 2021-0914 (Mon), COM-STR2).

Theocracies are an embarrassment to all world religions, taking away the cherished
freedoms of their citizens and imposing frivolous laws (JRE Link, 2021-0914 (Mon), COM-STR2).

Question: What is the argument against freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and
freedom of the press in Iran, in China, and in any other country of the world that has yet to
embrace these important rights for their citizens?

Answer: There is no good argument. These countries need to change immediately.

There were not good old days, or glory years, in autocratic regimes. It's always been
miserable times for the people and that will continue under this type of rule.

And autocratic regimes always have military governance. Everything is by force, not by
leaders embracing high principles.

Don't impose a government on the country's citizens, whether communist or theocratic.
Let the people choose.

Good news travels fast among the people. Freedom is good news.

We want all peoples and all countries of the world to succeed on a grand scale.
Communist and theocratic governments just get in the way of that important goal of mankind (JRE Link, 2022-0721 (Thu), COM-STR2).

Genocide and World Wars

They were aware! They were aware! Remember the lessons of Nuremberg. Perpetrators
of crimes against humanity need to be held accountable for their evil acts and not escape justice (JRE Link, 2019-0319 (Tue), COM-STR2).

Commemorate the Jews of America, and of all nations, at every opportunity. Remember
their great contributions to mankind.

The persecution and slaughter of Coptic Christians... and the world did nothing.

World War I––a story of senseless slaughter brought to you by the world community of
nations. It could have been averted (JRE Link, 2019-0108 (Tue), COM-STR2).

World War I is emblematic of many of the problems that the world faces today––tragic
diplomatic failures (JRE Link, 2019-0108 (Tue), COM-STR2).

A series of important events needed to unfold in 1914 and before. Envoys received and
compromises accepted. Tens of millions of lives saved and untold suffering prevented (JRE Link, 2019-0108 (Tue), COM-STR2).

In World War I, we saw leaders of nations who cared very little about the lives of their
people. An unnecessary war of mass casualties for the honor of kings and the honor of nations (JRE Link, 2019-0108 (Tue), COM-STR2).

A generation of lives lost through war is expensive to humanity––artists, musicians,
inventors, scientists, authors, teachers, leaders, fathers and mothers, brothers and sisters, sons
and daughters, friends and neighbors (JRE Link, 2019-0108 (Tue), COM-STR2).

Remember these great and tragic wars of history. Break the cycle of death in the world.

What happens in military conflict throughout the world every day is not preordained.
Wars can be and should be averted as much as possible. All peaceful solutions are on the table
for mankind to explore and to hopefully adopt (JRE Link, 2019-0108 (Tue), COM-STR2).

And preventing wars obviously will have a marvelous impact on the course followed by
civilization (JRE Link, 2019-0108 (Tue), COM-STR2).

Peace is impossible when the hearts of men are evil and they turn against God and their
fellow man (JRE Link, 2019-0108 (Tue), COM-STR2).

Lay down your arms and engage the peace process. Lay down your arms and pray (JRE Link, 2018-1127 (Tue), COM-STR2).

Terrorism

Civilization has many soft targets. The problem is not freedom. The problem is evil (JRE Link, 2017-1008 (Sun), COM-STR2).

Civilization is under siege. Horrendous evil brings humanity to its knees (JRE Link, 2017-0930 (Sat), COM-STR2).

A Tuesday like any other––9/11. And the world changed (JRE Link, 2017-0916 (Sat), COM-STR2).

Evil strikes the world and then many are dead (JRE Link, 2017-0930 (Sat), COM-STR2).

"Let's roll!" Some of the most sacred words ever spoken in the history of America.

Terrorism has a scale factor unparalleled by conventional crime. Police, military, and
intelligence agencies all are needed to fight this evil. All hands on deck!

Terrorist groups are like the black death of the dark ages. They are mortal enemies.

The forces of evil have no freedom fighters. Freedom and evil are natural opposites (JRE Link, 2019-0319 (Tue), COM-STR2).

National Defense

There are no perfect wars, no perfect diplomacy efforts, and no perfect countries, but
every day the United States of America leads the countries of the world forward in the pursuit of
peace (JRE Link, 2019-0319 (Tue), COM-STR2).

The men and women of the United States Armed Forces glorify freedom. They represent
the highest ideals of America. Include them in your prayers every night (JRE Link, 2017-1016 (Mon), COM-STR2).

The men and women of the United States Armed Forces are patriots who love their
fellow man and fight for freedom. They take the lives of their enemies in battle reluctantly. They
don't delight in the shedding of blood (JRE Link, 2017-0726 (Wed), COM-STR2).

The American military commands the battlefield. Each battle and each war has its own
challenges and its own timeline, but over time, America and all freedom-loving countries will
always win out in the end.

A bit hard... incredibly hard, actually—George Washington leading the Continental Army
against forces of the British Empire. A leader of men. The father of our country (JRE Link, 2021-1029 (Fri), COM-STR2).

We looked across the battlefield and finally saw it––victory had been achieved (JRE Link, 2019-0319 (Tue), COM-STR2).

Show mercy as the victor in war (JRE Link, 2019-0113 (Sun), WSE-MAIN).

Freedom is the goal for all countries of the world. There is no other way for people to
live.

Your tour of duty is over. You've made your country proud (JRE Link, 2019-0319 (Tue), COM-STR2).

A wife says to her returning soldier––Kiss me. It's our time now (JRE Link, 2019-0319 (Tue), COM-STR2).

A lucky Sherman—a faithful Mrs. Potter serving the country on the homefront.

A lot––those heroes of the armed forces who never have their name mentioned.

Remember the sanctity of life in times of both war and peace. Patriotism means to make
proper use of the instruments of war (JRE Link, 2019-0116 (Wed), COM-STR2).
